Rams News · GIRLS TENNIS HEAD TO SECTIONALS

It’s been a season of growth for the student-athletes and the new head coach but the foundation is being laid for next season.  Sean Herbert takes his young girls tennis team to the Sectionals in Troy tomorrow.   Junior Layla Jones is 5 and 6 into the sectionals and her season, although a roller coaster ride, has seen improvement with her game.

“Layla can be as good as she wants.  She knows there were some matches she should have and could have won with just some minor tweaks,” said Coach Herbert.

Jayla Adams showed improvement at second singles and Kennedy Campbell carries a 4-7 record into competition tomorrow.  Bre Davis and Aaliyah Gooley fought hard in first singles this season in what amounted to one of the toughest schedules in the GWOC.  The experience for all of the players should do nothing but motivate and help them next season.

“Experience for our kids is the missing piece.  Playing against teams in which the players have several years experience on the court is the major advantage, ” Coach Herbert said. “Knowing all of my players are underclassmen and are quick learners, well, let’s just say I like how things look next season.”
